Hawaii Diary Day 3 - Swap Meet, the Zoo and the Star of Honolulu

Wednesday October 29, 2003
Saturday was our first visit to the famed Aloha Stadium Swap Meet. It was unlike anything we could have imagined. It was almost as if someone had take many of the vendors from the International Marketplace in Waikiki and increased their number four-fold and spread them out around the entire perimeter of Aloha Stadium. For your fifty cents per person admission you can shop till you drop or at least until the heat and sun help you decide that you've had enough.

Following the Swap Meet, we made our regular trek to Hilo Hattie on the Nimitz Highway where both Eileen and I made use of their 40th anniversary offer to buy one document and get the second one for half price. This was followed by an afternoon at the Honolulu Zoo, where most of the animals were much smarter than we were. They decided to stay in the shade or in their enclosures away from the heat and humidity. The zoo is doing a lot of work preparing new natural habitat exhibits. We'll be interested in visiting on our next trip to Oahu.

For dinner on Saturday, we elected the luxurious five-star dinner cruise on the Star of Honolulu. We'll be doing an in-depth feature on the dinner cruise when we get home, but for now let me say it includes one of the best meals we've ever had anywhere, plus the views of sunset at Honolulu and Waikiki at night are amazing.
