The road to the summit of Mauna Kea was closed Sunday because drifting snow as high as three feet blocked the roadway, while the rest of the state enjoyed temperatures in the mid - 70s, officials said.
The 13,792 - foot summit was windy and foggy, and had a wind chill of 15 degrees below zero, according to the National Park Service.
Snow drifts above the 13,000 - foot level were up to two feet high, with lesser amounts accumulating farther below, it said.
The mountain and neighboring 13,681 - foot Mauna Loa remained under a winter storm warning, the National Weather Service reported Sunday night.
