Hawaii's Jasmine Trias and Camile Velasco have both advanced to the next round of Fox's American Idol finals. The musical theme for Tuesday night's show was Soul.
Jasmine's advance was easily predicted based on her excellent performance of Inseparable. She won praise from all three judges. Paula Abdul called it the best performance of the night. Even Simon Cowell proclaimed it "superb."
Camile's advance was somewhat less assured. Her version of Son of a Preacher Man was marked by the nervousness which has been present throughout the series. The judges received her performance with muted praise. Randy Jackson called it "safe," while Simon urged her to find her "self-belief" or else her lifeline may be cut short.
In the end it was 17-year old Seattle native Leah LaBelle who was eliminated from the competition. Simon Cowell had predicted this on Tuesday and in fact warned her to pack her bags.
