Ocean Crystal Chapel at Hilton Hawaiian Village Beach Resort & Spa Set For Fall Opening

Wednesday July 6, 2005
Hilton Hotels Corporation and Best Bridal Hawaii, Inc. broke ground June 22 for Waikiki’s first free-standing resort wedding chapel. Hilton Hawaiian Village Beach Resort & Spa has entered into a long-term lease with the Hawaii-based Best Bridal Hawaii. Under that lease, Best Bridal Hawaii will operate the Ocean Crystal Chapel offering complete wedding services. The $5 million chapel will seat approximately 80 guests and will offer panoramic views through floor-to-ceiling glass windows.

Construction began in June with the first weddings anticipated in December. The two-level structure was designed by Jeff Long of Long & Associates AIA, Inc. The first level will be nestled amongst lush landscaping and cascading waterfalls, offering an inviting observatory-like glass entrance that leads into a wedding boutique. Here, future brides and grooms will be able to meet privately with their wedding coordinator. A landscaped stairway will lead to the upper level chapel. An elevator from the ground level to the second floor will allow brides to make a grand entrance into the chapel. Fronting the chapel and situated in a shallow lagoon will be a wedding gazebo that will offer an additional ceremony option for couples.

Best Bridal Hawaii, Inc., a consolidated subsidiary of the Best Bridal Group in Japan, will handle the booking arrangements and coordination of the weddings, from assisting with the wedding gown and tuxedo to hiring musicians and photographers. The Hilton Hawaiian Village Beach Resort & Spa staff will make arrangements for any food and beverage needs of the bridal party, and has created special menus for private suites, function rooms, resort restaurants and outdoor venues.

The Best Bridal Group was founded by its CEO and president, Masayuki Tsukada, who brings over 40 years of experience to the wedding industries in Japan and Hawaii. As the name suggests, Best Bridal is a specialized wedding production company that created a new generation of weddings in Japan by founding the "guesthouse" concept. Today, Best Bridal is rated as one of the fastest-growing and progressive service companies.

Mukai said the philosophy of the Best Bridal Group is to create the most memorable event in their client’s lives. "We want to provide our couples with a dream come true, and we know that Hilton Hawaiian Village - with its expansive 22-acre resort - will play an important role in the couple’s experience," said Mukai.

The Chrystal Chapel is lovely. The attached gazebo is beautiful but not “intimate.” It is in a high-traffic area. Bell hops, kids in flip-flops and golf carts regularly pass by. Do not expect a quite or private wedding in the gazebo.
