Parker Ranch Historic Homes

Monday September 15, 2008
A visit to Parker Ranch on Hawaii's Big Island would not be complete without a tour of the ranch's two historic homes, Mana Hale and Puuopelu. Located on Highway 190, just south of Waimea Center these two homes represent the bookends of the Parker family's near two century ownership of Parker Ranch.

Mana Hale, "House of the Spirit" was built by the ranch's founder John Palmer Parker in 1847.

Puuopelu, the second home on the site, was purchased by John Parker II and was expanded and modernized by Richard Smart who resided in the home until his death in 1992. The home is known for its European heirloom furniture, crystal chandeliers and delicate figurines, along with one of the finest private art collections in Hawaii.
