The 34th Annual Prince Lot Hula Festival at spectacular Moanalua Gardens will take place on Saturday, July 16, 2011, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The largest non-competitive hula event in Hawaii, the festival honors Prince Lot Kapuaiwa who reprised the once banned hula in the district of Moanalua.
A number of Hawaii's top hula halau will participate in the festival performing both hula kahiko (ancient) hula and chant, and 'auana (modern) hula performances. Dancers will perform on one of the few remaining pa hula (hula mounds) in Hawaii.
This year's festival will also include cultural activities designed to enhance the experience for visitors and local residents alike such as a new special presentation of traditional Hawaiian Lua, a martial arts exhibit and demonstration. Festival entertainment also includes the Kamehameha Schools Men's Alumni Glee Club and a concert by the Royal Hawaiian Band.
