News from Hilton Hawaii

Follow me on:

I've gotten a lot of news from my friends at Hilton Hawaii including a special Hawaii Five-0 package and news of the iconic Rainbow Tower at the Hilton Hawaiian Village Waikiki Beach Resort and finally a really interesting "green" initiative at the DoubleTree by Hilton Alana Waikiki Hotel.

Let's look at each piece of news:

Hawaii Five-0 Experience

If you're like me and watch the new Hawaii Five-0 every week and delight whenever I recognize a filming location on Oahu, you're sure to know that The Hilton Hawaiian Village Waikiki Beach Resort has been featured in numerous episodes throughout the show's first season. The resort is also celebrating its own 50th anniversary in 2011. Areas of the hotel that were featured included the Rainbow Tower, the Rainbow Tower rooftop, Tropics Bar & Grill, the Grand Waikikian timeshare tower, Hau Tree Bar, and its famous Friday night fireworks over Waikiki Beach.

In honor of that role, the Resort is offering a new Hawaii Five-0 Experience through August 2012. The package includes:

  • A five-night stay in a luxurious oceanview room
  • Hawaii Five-0 Season 1 DVD set
  • $50 dining credit for Tropics Bar & Grill
  • Two signature Hawaii Five-0 cocktails - (Bartender Rocky Nago of Tropics Bar & Grill created two cocktails in honor of the new series. One is the Hawaii Five-0, and the other is the Book 'Em Danno. You can Learn how to make these cocktails by logging onto Hilton's YouTube site at www.youtube.com/Hilton.)
  • 50% off a Spirit of Aloha catamaran sail

The Hawaii Five-0 Experience package starts at $249 per night and can be booked by visiting www.hiltonhawaiianvillage.com or by calling 1-800-HILTONS and asking for rate code P5.

Rainbow Tower Upgrades

As I write this, Hilton Hawaiian Village Waikiki Beach Resort's iconic Rainbow Tower is completing a transformation including its more than 800 guest rooms. Since its opening in 1968, the Rainbow Tower has become a favorite for guests and anyone who views Waikiki from the ocean. Its oceanfront rooms provide great views of Waikiki Beach, the Duke Kahanamoku Lagoon and Diamond Head. The Tower features the world's largest ceramic-tile mosaic, with over 16,000 tiles, spanning 286 feet high by 26 feet wide on each end of the tower.

The $45 million project began in April. Each room in the tower received a total makeover, which includes all furnishings, carpet, wall covering, bathrooms, tubs, fixtures, drapery and artwork. The tower's signature suites, the Duke Kahanamoku Suite and the Niumalu Suite on the 30th and 31st floors, respectively, each received more than $1 million in upgrades.

The colors of Hawaii were chosen by architect/designer Ann Matsunami of Pacific Asia Design Group as the basis of developing themes for the new rooms - the warm and vibrant colors of the sun, the glow of a day at the beach represented by orange and golds. The look and feel is contemporary and welcoming, with tropical textures on clean shapes. The corridors on all guest-room floors, 3 through 31, are being upgraded with new light fixtures, wall coverings, carpet and artwork. New state-of-the-art elevators are now in place and elevators lobbies have received new elevator door faces and frames, new flooring, lighting and wall treatment.

Greencar Hawaii Launches Green Car-Sharing At The Doubletree

On December 2, 2011, GreenCar Hawaii, the first car share company in Hawaii and the only one of its kind serving the travel and tourism markets nationwide, launched at DoubleTree by Hilton Alana Waikiki Hotel, making this the first green, on-demand car sharing service by the hour available at any Oahu hotel.

GreenCar is providing four 100 percent electric Nissan Leaf vehicles and two, Level 2 commercial charging stations by ECOtality as the initial Blink Network in Hawaii. The Leaf, a five-door sedan, can be rented for $15 per hour or $95 per day. Third party electric vehicle (EV) owners can use the charging stations for a flat $5 fee.

Reservations can be made online at www.greencarhawaii.com, by phone at 877-NO-GAS-4U or at the GreenCar kiosk in the DoubleTree lobby. Guests check in at the kiosk to print an access voucher and their GreenCar is delivered directly to them by the hotel valet.

In March GreenCar Hawaii was one of six companies selected from 19 applicants to the State of Hawaii's Department of Business, Economic Development and Tourism (DBEDT) EV Ready Grant Program, established to speed up market acceptance of EVs and related charging equipment, an important strategy in reaching Hawaii's 70 percent clean energy goal. Funding for the grant program is provided by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, managed by DBEDT.

We were there when they filmed a few weeks ago at Hilton Hawaiian Village. Got to see the Alex O’Loughlin, Terry OQuinn and Scott Caan. It was so exciting. All of them are so handsome. I love the Hilton and love the beach in front. It is so rare in Waikiki to see such a wide expanse of beach. We feel like it is our home away from home and it seems really safe there. Love everything about it, especially the beautiful 22 acres of green space, waterfalls, ponds and gardens. Truly a great location in Waikiki.

Hilton Hawaiian Village rocks. I love the fireworks every Friday night. The grounds are beautiful. When we can’t get into Hilton Hawaiian Village we stay at the Doubletree Alana. One note: The Hilton Waikiki Beach is not the Hilton Hawaiian Village, it is the old Prince Kuhio and it is not on the beach. The HIlton Waikiki Beach needs to change its name. It is very confusing when you see HIlton Waikiki Beach, you think you are on the beach but you are three blocks away. So when you book a hotel in Waikiki, make sure you look on a google map to see where the hotels are located. Know that the Hilton Hawaiian Village is the only Hilton hotel in Waikiki that is on the beach.
