Many online sources say it originated in 1927. How did you come up with 1928?

This year was the 79th Lei Day celebration according to the City’s website. To establish the starting year you need to subtract 79 from 2006 and add 1. That makes 1928.
For example a festival that began in 2000 is having its 7th anniversary this year, i.e. To work backwards take 2006 subtract 7 and add one and you get 2000. - 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005 and 2006. That’s 7 years of festivals.
