More than 5,500 performers from prefectures throughout Japan are expected to participate in the 10th Annual Honolulu Festival taking place March 5-7, 2004. No other event in the world showcases the number and variety of Japan’s cultural and traditional performances in one place. The Festival will celebrate a decade of sharing the cultures of Japan and Hawaii with an expanded lineup of activities including events commemorating 150 years of U.S.-Japan relations and an exhibit of the world’s largest Mandala patchwork quilt. Dancers, musicians, art exhibits, seminars and cultural demonstrations will fill venues throughout the city and spill onto the street during the culmination of the Festival at the Grand Parade on Sunday.

The Honolulu Festival was established in 1994 to promote cultural understanding, economic cooperation and ethnic harmony between the people of Hawaii and the Asia-Pacific region. The first Honolulu Festival was held in 1995 and attracted more than 87,500 residents and visitors. In the last several years, attendance has steadily increased to more than 303,600 last year. The Honolulu Festival is supported by the Honolulu Festival Foundation, a non-profit organization formed in 2000 to administer Festival activities and perpetuate the culture, customs and traditions of Asians and Pacific Islanders through community outreach and charitable efforts.
