Kauai's Poipu Beach Resort Assn. Press Release

World-Class Golf at Affordable Rates

By , About.com Guide

The Poipu Beach Resort area, located on Kauai's sunny south shore, is far more than just a beach destination. Featuring two 18-hole championship courses designed by Robert Trent Jones, Jr., Poipu boasts some of the finest golf in the islands. Both of these outstanding courses offer a variety of attractive green fees, packages and special discounts throughout the year for golfers who play multiple rounds or book afternoon tee times. (2003 Rates and Packages are found at the end of this press release.)

The Kiahuna Golf Club, situated in the heart of Poipu, is a 6,353-yard par-70 course that meanders through beautifully landscaped gardens, water features and 27 preserved archaeological sites. The rocky remnants of an ancient Hawaiian village are skillfully incorporated into the course's layout and design, thus offering a challenging golf experience combined with a sense of the area's enduring history. Numerous water hazards, undulating greens, 68 bunkers and prevailing trade winds have forged a reputation for Kiahuna as "the longest short golf course you'll ever play."

A four-star award winner by "Golf Digest," Kiahuna was the first championship course to be built in Poipu. Central to all the Poipu hotels, Kiahuna offers a clubhouse and restaurant featuring panoramic ocean and golf course views, a putting green, driving range, and a fully-stocked pro shop. A resident golf pro is on hand to give lessons and assist with tournament organization. For 2003, Kiahuna's regular green fee is $75, with discounts as low as $45 available for an 18-hole round, and very affordable weekly and monthly unlimited golf packages. Contact Kiahuna Golf Club at (808) 742-9595, or visit the course's website at www.kiahunagolf.com.

Poipu Bay Golf Course, home to the PGA Grand Slam of Golf, is situated on 210 oceanfront acres adjacent to the Hyatt Regency Kauai Resort and Spa. Since its opening in 1991, this immaculate course has won numerous awards and has been consistently rated among the top golf courses in Hawaii and the U.S. by such prestigious publications as "Golf Digest," "Golf Magazine," and "Conde Nast Traveler."

Set between lush mountains and rugged ocean bluffs, Poipu Bay is a 7,081-yard par-72 ocean-links style course featuring spectacular vistas and challenging play, including seven holes with water hazards and 86 bunkers. All of Poipu Bay's golf carts are equipped with a color-monitor GPS satellite tracking system, allowing golfers to monitor their pace of play, obtain pro tips, track their ball and determine yardage. The 21,000-square-foot Poipu Bay Clubhouse includes one of America's "Top 100" pro shops, locker room facilities, snack bar, restaurant, lounge and club storage. Poipu Bay's 2003 regular green fee is $185, but a variety of discounted fees are available for golfers, including a $65 rate for play after 3:00 p.m. Contact Poipu Bay at tollfree 1-800-858-6300 or direct (808) 742-8711.
