One thing I always tell folks who are planning a vacation to Oahu is to be sure to get away from Waikiki and see the rest of the island. It's something that Eileen and I always do. There is so much to see on Oahu that we have always found new places to visit.
Our adventure today took us west on H1 and then east on H3 to Kailua and Kaneohe on windward Oahu. (The eastern shore of Oahu is referred to as the windward coast. The western side is referred to as the leeward coast.)

Kailua and Kaneohe are often considered to be two of the most lovely bays in Hawaii.
We found Kailua Bay to be particularly lovely and a very popular place for swimming, boating and kayaking. Kailua Beach Park is a great place to take a walk on the beach, but the best views of the bay are found from a bit south of the beach, near a large marker close to the entrance to Lanikai Beach.
Kaneohe is also a lovely bay but a difficult one to view.

We found the best views to be found from Heeia State Park which is easily accessed from the Kamehameha Highway just north of the town of Kaneohe.
