Star of Honolulu - Sunset Cruise

John Fischer
Hawaii’s premier cruise ship, the 1,500-passenger Star of Honolulu, features the freshest and finest that Fall has to offer on its Five Star Sunset Dinner Cruise.

Executive Chef Eric Omick incorporates the best ingredients from around the world in an all-new classic French style seven-course feast. At the exclusive Captain’s Welcome Reception, Five Star guests sample a selection of Fall Canapés served butler style, and a champagne toast to kick off the evening. An authentic Wild Mushroom Consomme is next, garnished with a pate a choux pastry stuffed with morel, chanterelles, truffles and foie gras. Then, a gourmet Smoked Duck Salad is served, showcasing Fall colors and flavors, including a luscious poach-baked duck galantine, fresh Fuyu persimmons, and a purple Okinawan sweet potato basket. The salad is dressed with a tantalizing Cranberry Port Dressing.

Next, diners enjoy Live Maine Lobster accompanied by a flavorful Black Truffle and Grilled Vegetable Risotto, Alaskan Dungeness Crab Galette, and light Lobster Broth. To dazzle and cleanse the palate, a unique and invigorating intermezzo pairs sweet Bosc Pear with a trace of Baby White Ginger.

The succulent main course utilizes the finest grade of meat, Chairman’s Reserve Tenderloin of Beef, premium aged and marbled for intense flavor and ready to melt in your mouth. This selection is complemented by Saffron-Roasted Potatoes Tourne, Artichoke and Squash Ratatouille, and complex Demi-Glace Sauce.

The evening ends with a most memorable bite of a decadent dessert creation fit for a Pharaoh. The centerpiece is a Maple Mousse Pyramid layered with cake and encircled by a Swiss Truffle and Maple Macaroon Cookie. A Red Wine Infused Pear combined with Mascarpone Cheese, Strawberries and Madagascar Vanilla Bean Anglaise completes this fantastic finale.

On the Star of Honolulu’s Five Star Sunset Dinner Cruise, the ambiance is as memorable as the food. Live soft jazz music by Honolulu’s top musicians creates a relaxing and sophisticated atmosphere. The Jazz trio is led by vocalists Rachel Asebido or Jeanette Trevias, two of Hawaii’s best performers. Throughout the night, wrap-around windows offer stellar sunset and coastline views.

The Five Star Sunset Dinner Cruise is offered nightly, departing from Pier 8 at Aloha Tower Marketplace at 5:30 p.m. All-inclusive exclusive limousine transportation from Waikiki, VIP welcome, dinner, live jazz show, super premium cocktails and after dinner cart drink service, is $199 per person. Special Kama’aina and military rates are available with valid Hawaii I.D.

The $7-million, 232-foot Star of Honolulu was custom-designed for steady sailing in Hawaiian waters. In addition, the ship provides full facilities for the physically challenged.
