Island of Kauai
as seen from space

Almost totally obscured by the encroaching terminator between day and night, at the onset of nightfall, the island of Kauai, peeks out from scattered cloud cover. The island's volcanic origins are easily seen by the distinctive lava flow topography and lush vegetation.

This photo was taken on the STS-7 (Space Shuttle) mission on 06/24/83.
