This green wooden Shingon Buddhist temple is very typical of many Buddhist temples that sprang up all over the islands when the Japanese laborers were brought to work in the sugar cane fields. Some of the churches were little more than elaborate false "temple" fronts on existing buildings.
During the summer, Buddhist temples hold Bon Memorial celebrations where members perform traditional Japanese folk dances. Visitors are welcome to the temple.
