The famous Moana Banyan Tree and Pool was planted at the hotel in 1904. In 1979, the Banyan tree was among the first of Hawaii's rare trees to be placed on the City and County of Honolulu's Exceptional Tree List. Today, Tree Number 45 measures a full 150 feet across while its trunk is 75 feet high.
The Sheraton Moana Surfrider has always been home to island musicians. From 1935 to 1975, the live radio show "Hawaii Calls" was broadcast from the Moana Banyan Tree and Pool stage to bring the sounds of Hawaii to thousands of listeners on the West Coast.
Nightly entertainment at the Moana Banyan Tree and Pool carries musical melodies from such groups as the Puuhonua Trio, Pookela or Hawaii Loa. There is no better way to relax than to spend an evening listening to the beautiful music of Ginny Tiu on the piano. Once a child prodigy, Tiu performed as a child actress in a movie with the king himself, Elvis Presley.
