One part of the Big Island Festival that my wife and I particularly enjoyed was the Festival Pavilion which was open on Friday and Saturday in the Water's Edge Ballroom, Lagoon Lanai and Grand Promenade. This was a free event open to all guests and visitors.

Over 50 Big Island artists, craft persons, farmers and producers of other products set up displays offering their work and products for sale - often at much less expensive prices than you will find at local galleries and stores for the same items.

Whether you were interested in beautiful handmade koa wood items, artwork, photography, handmade quilts and scarves, or Big Island beef jerky, candy, chutney, coffee or cookies, there was something available for everyone.

My wife and I did a majority of our Christmas shopping at the Festival Pavilion. While some sellers accepted charges, many required cash, so if you go in 2006, visit the ATM first.

We'll be doing a separate feature spotlighting our favorite dealers at the Festival Pavilion.
