The Big Island Festival lasts four days and tickets are available on an individual basis for all of the events I have mentioned. The Festival does, however, offer a Platinum Pass which includes admission to the Opening Festivities Dinner, Food & Wine Magazine’s Best New Chefs 2005 Culinary Demonstrations & Wine Pairings, Wine Tastings and Seminars and Final Gala Dinner.

In 2005, the Platinum Pass sold for $400 per person which was an $85 savings off of individual tickets for the same events.

The Food & Wine Magazine's Best New Chef Dinners ranged from $65 to $130 per person depending on the dinner selected. The agriculture tours were approximately $75 per person each.

While not inexpensive, these prices are quite reasonable when you consider the average cost of food and wine at any good restaurant in Hawaii and recognize that you are also getting to learn a lot about food preparation and wine selection in the process.

As is common in the travel industry, the writer was provided with complimentary accommodations and meals for the purpose of reviewing those services. While it has not influenced this review, About.com believes in full disclosure of all potential conflicts of interest. For more information, see our ethics policy.
