This is the authentic traditional Mai Tai recipe from the "Mai Tai" Bar at the Royal Hawaiian Hotel in Waikiki. The original Mai Tai was created by Victor J. Bergeron in 1944 and brought to Hawaii in 1953 at the Royal Hawaiian, Moana and Surfrider Hotels.

Preparation:

Combine all of the ingredients in the order listed in a Old Fashioned style glass over shaved ice. Stir with a swizzle stick. Garnish with a slice of pineapple and a cherry.

The Best I've Tried, Member hawaii_guy

I have never been a huge Mai Tai fan. They usually hand you a really weak, somewhat sour one at most luaus. Since, however, this is the original recipe, I decided to try it. Once I had all of the ingredients rounded up, I made one for my wife and myself. It was really excellent. I guess I'll have to stop by the Royal Hawaiian when we're in Hawaii the next time to get one at the bar. Try this recipe. It's really good.
