Scorpion

By John Fischer, About.com

A strong island treat with fruit juice, brandy, gin, rum, native nectar and a touch of almond flavor.
Ingredients:
  • 1-1/2 ounces orange juice
  • 1 ounce grapefruit juice
  • 1 ounce pineapple juice
  • 3/4 ounce orgeat syrup*
  • 1-3/4 ounces dry gin
  • 3/4 ounce brandy
  • 3/4 ounce white rum
  • dash of almond extract
Preparation:
Place all ingredients, except almond extract, in a blender along with 1 cup of crushed ice. Blend all items.
Pout mixture over ice cubes in a large glass. Add a dash of almond extract.
Decorate with a fresh gardenia blossom.

*Orgeat syrup is a sweet syrup made from almonds, sugar and rose water/orange-flower water. It was, however, originally made with a barley-almond blend. It has a pronounced almond taste and is used to flavor many cocktails. Orgeat syrup can be hard to find, but can be found in some stores that sell coffee syrups/flavorings. If you cannot find it, almond syrup is a good substitute for orgeat syrup.
