Hawaii’s rich and diverse heritage will truly come alive at the Hilton Hawaiian Village® Beach Resort & Spa’s Village Arts Celebration, May 6-8. The three-day celebration, which is part of the 2005 Hawaii Arts Season, will feature top-name Hawaiian entertainers at the Tapa Bar and Rainbow Bazaar retail area.

Events

  • On Friday, May 6, guests will be treated to the Hilton’s signature Aloha Friday King’s Jubilee king’s procession, entertainment show and fireworks extravaganza, which is offered weekly at 7 p.m.
  • On May 7 and 8, the resort’s open-air Tapa Bar will host a variety of performances, including the Noel Okimoto Jazz Ensemble; Chamber Music Hawaii ensembles; Hawaii Opera Theatre; Hawaii Jazz Quartet and renowned solo guitarist Makana. A special menu of local-style pupu (appetizers) and Hawaiian cocktails will be offered throughout the two-day festivities.
  • Also on May 7 and 8, the Rainbow Bazaar will become a flurry of activity with the sights, sounds and tastes of the East and West. Bazaar merchants will display their wares outdoors as strolling performers - everything from puppeteers with oversize puppets to magicians and jugglers - meander their way through the three courtyards. Guests will be able to take a "trip" to Hong Kong Alley and watch an acrobatic lion dance or a solo erhu (Chinese stringed instrument) performance; find solace with a relaxing shakuhachi flute and koto duo in the Imperial Japan courtyard or relax to the Hawaiian melodies of ukulele maestro Herb Ohta, Jr. in the South Pacific courtyard.

Refreshments

Throughout the bazaar, purveyors will offer samplings of select ethnic food products, including Asian liqueurs, sakes, Hawaii micro brews and specialty coffee drinks, just to name a few.

Self-Guided Art Tour

Other special Arts Celebration activities that guests can partake in that weekend include a self-guided art tour featuring dozens of the artifacts throughout the 22-acre resort, and a visit to the resort’s historical Bishop Museum Collection.
