Located within the historic Gaylord Wilcox Mansion, 22° North Restaurant and Bar opened in mid-2010 at the location of the former restaurant, Gaylord's at Kilohana. The restaurant is named after the latitude at which the island of Kauai sits.
Under the leadership of General Manager Todd Oldham (formerly the executive chef at the Princeville Hotel), his partners and Chef de Cuisine Aaron Leikam (recently of Hukilau Lanai), 22° North describes itself as a "farm to table" restaurant in that it offers products produced exclusively on Kauai.
On my visit I had the opportunity to walk through part of the extensive 1-1/2-acre vegetable garden and 60-acre orchards of the adjacent Kilohana Farm and Orchards from which virtually all of the produce used in the restaurant is grown. Todd explained that 22° North's menu is constantly changing depending on which fruits and vegetables are ready to be harvested. They are then served on the same day in the restaurant. Even a number of the restaurant's seasonal cocktails are made from ingredients grown on the property.
