On any given day you'll see the buses and vans of Hawaii Movie Tours crisscrossing Kauai taking land based visitors and cruise ship day visitors on either their coastal land tour or 4x4 off-road tour. Some guests elect to combine their tour with a helicopter ride that will show them additional movie sites inaccessible by the land.
When offered the choice of either tour, I elected to take the 4x4 off-road tour, primarily because it offered the opportunity to venture inland to the foot of Mt. Waiʻaleʻale where Jurrassic Park was filmed.
Right on time the Hawaii Movie Tours van pulled up to the porte-cochere of the Kauai Beach Hotel. My guide for the day, Guy McKiniry, hopped from the vehicle, introduced himself and offered me the front passenger seat since I was a single and his first pickup of the day. From my hotel it was a short drive to another nearby resort to pickup several additional passengers and then over to the Hawaii Movie Tours office in Kapaʻa where we all checked in and signed the required waivers.
Before we knew it we were off to our first of many stops on the day. As the van travels from location to location, the action doesn't stop. You get to see scenes from films made at the upcoming or previous stop and at other times test you movie knowledge with a video movie quiz. The quiz is tough!
