After lunch the tour departs for the true 4x4 portion of the tour, a trip to the foot of Mt. Waiʻaleʻale, the wettest spot on earth and location where parts of Jurassic Park were filmed.
Our destination was the place where the huge gate of Jurrasic Park was built. The location is quite a distance up a rough road through the rainforest on the Waikoko Forest Management Road.
Hawaii Movie Tours aptly describes this portion of the tour. "Deep into Kauai's interior, driving through rivers and streams, this breathtaking journey will take you back in time. In addition to the seclusion of this drive, you learn about and see Kauai's rich flora."
Before arrival at the location you get to see a feature on the making of Jurassic Park including the construction of various sets. For the "gate" scene an actual paved road was built in addition to the gate itself.
Following filming, the paved road and gate were removed as required to restore the area to its natural beauty. You would never guess that on this washed out, rough trail there was once a paved roadway.
