What do you get when you place one of Hawaii's top resorts on the beach selected in 2001 by Dr. Beach (Stephen P. Leatherman) as America's Top Beach and locate both on the island chosen by the readers of Condé Nast Traveler as the second best island in the world for 2004?

Add all of these together and you get the beautiful Sheraton Kauai Resort located on Po'ipu Beach on the island of Kaua'i.

Set amidst 20 acres of lush oceanfront gardens, the Sheraton Kauai Resort has been the anchor resort property at Po'ipu for over 30 years. Known for its warm sunny days, beautiful sunsets and mild evenings, Po'ipu is located just sixteen miles south of the Lihu'e Airport.

Centrally located to many of the major scenic points of the Garden Isle - Waimea Canyon, Kokee State Park, the Na Pali Coast, Spouting Horn and the National Tropical Botanical Gardens - Poi'pu is also just an easy one-hour drive to Kaua'i's North Shore attractions, including the lovely town of Hanalei and the resort area of Princeville.

The Sheraton Kauai Resort features 414 air-conditioned rooms, including 13 suites. The Resort offers a choice of views from tropical gardens and koi-filled ponds to the palm-fringed, white-sand beach and the Pacific horizon.

As aptly stated in the resort's fact sheet, "a $45 million construction and renovation project, completed in late 1997, created a new Sheraton Kaua'i with the majority of the resort's facilities brand new and blending with its premier beachfront location. With no building taller than a mature coconut tree and the plethora of tropical foliage providing a never-ending play of color, light, fragrance and sense of seclusion, the resort is an island in itself."

A visitor is immediately impressed by the open feeling of the resort. The vast majority of rooms open off of open-air corridors. Many rooms feature views of the mountains or gardens at the entrance and views of the beach or ocean from the lanai.

The main lobby and adjoining areas are spacious, airy and appropriately decorated with beautiful island art. A favorite stop for many visitors is the Guest News Library which features comfortable furniture, several Internet access terminals as well as numerous daily papers.

The resort's signature restaurant, Shells Steak and Seafood, has a 120-degree panoramic view of Po'ipu Beach and the Pacific Ocean. Under the direction of award-winning Executive Chef Scott Kealoha Lutey, Shells is known for signature dishes combining flavors of the Pacific with such traditional foods as potatoes, vegetables and seafood.

The resort's lounge, The Point, features amazing views of sunset. It is also the setting for the complimentary morning quick-start refreshments (juice, coffee/tea, and fresh baked goods) and, for early risers, beautiful views of sunrise.

The resort offers ample room for peaceful strolls either alongside the beach and ocean or through its lovely gardens. It's not unusual to see a Hawaiian monk seal lounging on the beach as a rainbow fills the sky over the mountains. For those who love the sun and water, there is no better sunbathing or swimming to be found than on Po'ipu Beach or in one of the resort's two swimming pools.

As with all of the Starwood Properties in Hawaii that we have visited, a guest never senses that the staff is just there to do a job. Guests are treated like eagerly awaited family in the true aloha of Hawaii. While much of the resort was closed during the reconstruction and many workers furloughed, the vast majority chose to return to their previous jobs following its reopening.

Like all of Starwood's Properties in Hawaii, the Sheraton Kaua'i Resort offers the guest a premier location on one of the best beaches in the world together with beautiful facilities and a top-notch staff. Compare Prices
