Every few months I receive an email from someone asking if there are any all-inclusive resorts in Hawaii. While one resort which closed earlier in 2011 came close, there now is a resort which offers, should guests so desire, all of the benefits of an all-inclusive resort.
For over 60 years the Hotel Hana Maui was rated as one of Maui's top resort, offering top accommodations and service in the town of Hana on Maui’s secluded eastern shore. In June 2011, the hotel came under new ownership and a new name, Travaasa Hana.
Travaasa Experiential Resorts & Spas
A new name in the area of "experiental" hotels, Travaasa Hana is the second hotel to be opened by Travaasa Experiential Resorts & Spas, formerly known as Travaasa Destinations- the first being the Travaasa Austin which opened in April 2011.
The word Travaasa was created by blending travel, traverse, and pravaasa (Sanskrit for "memorable journey").
Travaasa Destinations aims to combine unique, customizable experiences with equally spectacular natural locations, and few locations are more beautiful than the town of Hana and the its abundant mix of culture and activities. In fact, the Travassa brand is centered around "five pillars" - adventure, culinary, culture, fitness and spa/wellness. For guests who want an all-inclusive experience, such as have been offered for many years in the Caribbean, package pricing is offered per person and includes daily spa services, gourmet meals and snacks, as well as full access to all experiences and accommodations.
Maintaining a Long History of Excellence
For many years I've suggested that rather than make the long drive to Hana with limited stops along the way only to immediately turn around and head back, visitors should plan to make a more leisurely drive along the Hana Highway, stay a night or two in Hana and really take the time to explore all that the area has to offer.
While offering wider choices for guests, Travassa is by no means abandoning the long history and record of excellence that earned the Hotel Hana Maui award after award every year. As recently as 2010, the perenial AAA Four Diamond Hotel was rated the No. 2 Hawaii Hotel in the 2010 Conde Nast Traveler Reader’s Choice Awards Poll. Just recently, The Spa at Travaasa Hana was named the No. 1 Resort Spa in Hawaii by Conde Nast Traveler in 2011. In other words, look for the record of excellence to continue.
