I admit that my feelings about The Westin Maui Resort & Spa have always been colored by my high regard for the resort's sister property, The Westin Kaanapali Ocean Resort Villas, just a few minutes down the road to the north.
In fact, before I had ever stayed at The Westin Maui Resort & Spa for the first time, I had the opportunity to spend several days at her sister property shortly after that resort opened in 2004. I was extremely impressed by The Westin Kaanapali Ocean Resort Villas as you can read in the review I wrote at that time. I'll be writing about the many additions and changes at that resort soon.
On the same trip in 2004, I spent several days at The Westin Maui Resort & Spa and, quite frankly, I was a bit disappointed. The Westin Maui Resort & Spa's standard room sizes were smaller and, as someone who generally prefers a more secluded resort, The Westin Maui Resort & Spa seemed to have a higher noise level and more crowded public areas. That being said, there are areas to enjoy privacy, whether at the adult pool area surrounded by koi ponds and gardens or the Heavenly Spa by Westin.
I again had the opportunity to spend four days at The Westin Maui Resort & Spa in June 2011. While there were still some areas of concern, I left with a much more favorable opinion of the property and all that the resort has to offer.
Let's take a closer look at The Westin Maui Resort & Spa. We'll begin by a brief history of the resort and then take a closer look at the resort today.
