Maui Dive Site - "Stonewall"

Atlantis IV Submarine Maui

On the day of our tour we had perfect weather. The ‘Au‘au Channel was as calm as it can be. For this reason Atlantis was diving at a dive site known as Stonewall which is located approximately 2.0 nautical miles offshore of Lahaina Harbor. Stonewall remains one of the best dive sites off of Maui, although black coral was extensively harvested here in the 1970s, and there have not been signs of recovery.

The Atlantis IV submarine carries up to 48 passengers to depths up to 150 feet. The Stonewall dive location allows the submarine to dive all the way to 150 feet as it explores the massive natural coral reefs at this beautiful dive location.

The Atlantis IV features large viewports and a spacious air-conditioned cabin. Numerous exotic varieties of tropical fish, coral gardens, moray eels and other fascinating marine life such as stingrays and occasionally sharks mingle amidst the natural coral reefs.

Our captain Jeff and dive guide Tiff explained that during whale season (December - May) a humpback whale may occassionally be seen beneath the surface. The are often seen from the tender on the trip to and from the dive site.

The Atlantis staff is professional and knowledgable - not to mention very funny. They are eager to help you identify the floral and fauna of the sea and share information about the fragile underwater ecosystem that supports the diverse marine life of the ocean. On the trip to the dive site Tiff also shared stories of Maui's rich culture and history.
