The Kihei Coast from the end of Ma'alaea Beach to Kewakapu Beach Park is less well known than its more famous cousins to the south in Wailea and Makena. There are, however, many lovely beaches which offer good swimming and snorkeling, excellent sun and spacious recreation areas.
The beaches in the north, specifically Mai Poina 'Oe Ia'u Beach through Kalama Park are often not the best for swimming due to discharge from a waste facility in the middle of Kalama Park. The current takes the treated water northward.
From Kama'ole Beach I through Kewakapu Beach, the water is fine and the swimming is excellent. This is the sunniest area on Maui. The Kama'ole Beaches I, II and III make up one of the longest stretches of lifeguard-protected beaches in Hawaii. These beaches are separated by rocky outcroppings at several points.
The beaches are located right on Kihei Road with numerous beach and convenience stores within easy walking distance for drinks, snacks and beach gear.
