Former Location of a Taro Patch

Now the lawn of the Lahaina Public Library, this area was once a taro patch. Taro was a staple of the Hawaiian diet. This taro patch stood in front of the Baldwin and Richards' houses. Lahaina, now a very dry town, except in times of heavy rain, was actually once home to many streams and ponds. The water was later redirected, primarily for purposes of human consumption.
