The Hale Aloha or "House of Love" was originally constructed in 1858 "in commemoration of God's causing Lahaina to escape the smallpox, while it desolated Oahu in 1853, carrying off 5,000-6,000 of its population." The structure fell into disrepair in the early 1900's. It was restored in 1974.
