When the missionaries arrived in Hawaii, they discovered that there was no written form of the Hawaiian language. A missionary committee created the written form still used today. In 1831, this printing house was founded at the Lahainaluna Seminary in order to print bibles, hymnals, and teaching materials. The current building was restored in the early 1980's by the Lahaina Restoration Foundation.
