Hawaii Newspapers & News Online

A guide to best sources for Hawaii news online including all Honolulu newspapers. Many of these sites are the electronic editions of major print newspapers. Others are exclusively web-based publications.

Keeping Up With the News in Hawaii
Here are some of my favorite ways to keep up with what's going on in Hawaii so that you can better plan your first or repeat visit to the islands.

Hawaii News
Our picks for the best sources for Hawaii news. We cover all of the major Hawaii newspapers, Honolulu newspapers, neighbor island newspapers, online news sources as well as the local TV stations that often stream major news stories live online.

Honolulu Star-Advertiser
The Honolulu Star-Advertiser published its first edition June 7, 2010, combining the best of the 128-year-old Honolulu Star-Bulletin and the 154-year-old Honolulu Advertiser.

The Maui News
Maui's major daily newspaper is a must read for anyone who wants to keep up with news of what's happening on Maui.

The Garden Island News
Kauai Publishing Company dates back to 1902, the year The Garden Island newspaper, Kauai's newspaper of record, was first published. Today, Kauai Publishing continues to publish and distribute The Garden Island, now seven days a week.

Pacific Business News
You'll find some of the week's top stories from PBN, along with other popular features including their Public Record, the weekly Business Calendar, the Small Business Strategies section, and more.

West Hawaii Today
From Kailua-Kona on the Big Island an excellent on-line newspaper updated daily. Be sure to visit their news page for local news articles about the Big Island.

Hawaii 24/7
Hawaii 24/7 is an independent news provider covering the Big Island of Hawaii, utilizing the Internet to deliver content as quickly as possible. Their mission is to improve the quality of life, encourage civic participation and promote a healthy democracy through an informed citizenry and healthy communities through social discourse. To be fair, frank and honest with people on all subjects and under whatever pressure.

Hawaii Reporter
Hawaii Reporter Inc. is an award-winning, independent, online news journal launched in February 2002 to cover key business, government, political and educational stories in Hawaii. Local journalists Malia Zimmerman and Jay McWilliams co-founded the publication. Though Hawaii Reporter publishes all points of view, the publication features many local and national columnists and contributors, the vast majority who are free market oriented, and who offer opinions and news not found elsewhere in Hawaii.

Hawaii Star
Hawaii Star is the latest incarnation of the "Hawaii NewsList," an independent, volunteer-run online news source that was originally established in 1994 at the University of Hawaii as a community service for former Hawaii residents living out-of-state and abroad. HawaiiStar.com will hopefully grow to include original spot news and in-depth reporting, features (including reviews, profiles, and columns), and opinion pieces — ultimately offering an independent, alternative venue for writers, photographers, and journalists (and student journalists).

Hawaii Tribune Herald
Focusing on local news on the Hilo side of the Big Island of Hawaii.

Honolulu Weekly
Billing itself as the only Honolulu newspaper that is "locally owned, independent and committed to Hawaii." A nice alternative voice to the new Honolulu Star-Advertiser.

Lahaina News
A weekly paper on West Maui with a hard copy edition published every Thursday. Bulletins and calendar events on the internet edition are updated on Thursday/Friday. Lots of really interesting features here.

Maui Weekly
A local Kihei based weekly newspaper focusing on local Maui news and events.

MidWeek.com
The online edition of RFD Publications' Oahu weekly contains a cover story/interview of an Oahu personality, movie listings and reviews, recipes, an activity calendar, and interactive television listings and feature articles.
