Commonly known as the "Rock of Polynesia", Niue is located 2,400 km northeast of New Zealand in a triangle between Tonga, Samoa and the Cook Islands. With a population of around 1,800, Niue is the world's smallest self governing state, in free association with New Zealand. Alofi is the capital. Once known as Savage Island, Niue has fertile soil and exports coconut milk, copra, honey, and fruit.
