By John Fischer, About.com

The island of Oahu offers a wide range of activities for every interest, every age and every budget.

  • Bishop Museum’s interactive Science Adventure Center is now open. Explore Hawaii’s creation and evolution through hands-on exhibits, which allow one to feel the heat of a volcano, pilot a deep sea submersible, experiment with the forces of nature and more.

  • Bishop Museum’s new exhibit "Sesame Street Presents: THE BODY," on display through April 2, is an amazing new educational attraction that teaches kids what’s under their skin, how their bodies work and how to stay healthy.

  • Diamond Head Crater Celebration, a musical festival popular in the 1970s, returns to the crater on April 1. From sunrise to sunset, music from the Steve Miller Band and War will erupt for an audience of 7,500.

  • Hawaii State Art Museum launched a new series of Honolulu downtown concerts at HiSAM every first Friday of the month in 2006. Upcoming events include slam poetry, opera singing and music from Grammy nominated artists.

  • Hawaii’s Plantation Village, in historic Waipahu town, holds "Relive the Plantation Days" each first Saturday beginning in January. One plantation ethnic heritage group is highlighted each month with activities and demonstrations throughout the village for the whole family.

  • Honolulu Academy of Arts will present a landmark exhibition of Pacific objects collected during the 18th century voyages of Captain James Cook February 23 through May 14.

  • Honolulu Academy of Arts’ Western Art Galleries are open again. The new galleries showcase the Academy’s collection of Western antiquities, and European Art of the Renaissance up to the beginning of the 19th century.

  • South Pacific Cultural Center at Waikiki LLC plans to stage a nightly Polynesian revue, featuring Hawaiian, Samoan, Tahitian, Fijian, Tongan and Maori music and dance, at the former site of the Kodak Hula Show and Pleasant Hawaiian Show beginning February 15. During the day the show will feature 30 to 50 arts, crafts and food vendors in an Artisans Village.

  • Star of Honolulu’s Premier Whale Watch is a two and half hour complete whale watching experience now through April. Panoramic walkways, 60-foot observation decks, educational whale activities with the crew of Certified Naturalists and Hawaiian cultural activities are features of the cruise.

  • Starlet’s Wild Whale Watch, two hours in length and featuring whale narration, offers a casual whale watching experience. Captain and crew of Certified Naturalists guarantee whale sightings from January 2 through March 31.
