- On the first Saturday of every month, AccesSurf Hawaii sponsors A Day on the Beach at Kalaeloa, Barber's Point Beach Park, for disabled persons who love the ocean. AccesSurf Hawaii is a non-profit organization whose mission is to make Hawaii's beaches accessible to everyone. Its volunteers teach mentally and physically challenged individuals how to surf and swim through adaptive surfing and shoreline floatation/swimming. All who are interested can spend a fun and relaxing day at the beach while also helping those with disabilities surf, swim and enjoy the outdoors.
- On January 19, 2008 Bishop Museum will unveil its Picture Gallery, an unrivaled collection of oil paintings, watercolors and works on paper will finally have a permanent home for year-round display. The new Picture Gallery is an integral part of the $21-million Hawaiian Hall renovation project, which began in June 2006. This is the first major renovation of the historic structure in more than 100 years. With the re-opening of the Picture Gallery in January, the Museum will present the first showing of selected pieces from this outstanding art collection in more than sixty years.
- Award-winning professional surfer Tony Moniz's Faith Riding Company Surf School, located at the Waikiki Beach Marriott Resort & Spa, provides guests with the opportunity to learn how to catch some waves with a professional who has been surfing for more than 25 years. The Hang Ten Surfing Package includes a 2.5-hour group lesson (two hours in the water with the instructor), surfboard, leash, and jersey. Valid until December 26, 2007; minimum three-night stay required.
- Kailua Sailboards and Kayaks, the largest kayak rental shop and guide service in the Hawaiian Islands, introduces its new Eco-Lounge this month. The Eco-Lounge combines multi-media and hands on learning in order to enhance the experience of eco-tours and better protect the natural and cultural resources of Kailua Bay.
- The Honolulu Academy of Arts presents Matteo Sandonà and Hawaii: A Capital Ambition. The exhibition is guest-curated for the Honolulu Academy of Arts by Duccio Marignoli and is on display from October 25, 2007 through February 24, 2008.
Matteo Sandonà and Hawaii: A Capital Ambition brings together works commissioned by members of Hawaii society between 1903 and 1920, from portraits of the first Territorial governor of Hawaii, Sanford B. Dole, and Honolulu Academy of Arts founder, Anna Rice Cooke, to the magnificent full-length portrait of Princess Abigail Kawananakoa - three figures in the exhibition who represent the political and cultural narrative that was played out in Hawaii during the first quarter of the 20th-century.
- Every first Friday of the month, a group of Waikiki Beach Marriott Resort & Spa associates gather to perform authentic Hawaiian hula at the open-air Moana Terrace. Kumu hula Francine Komomua, who has been dancing since age three, leads the dancers in telling the story of the Islands with their swaying hips, graceful hula hands and Hawaiian mele (song). The Na Pua Nani O Ke Kuhina Hawaii Hula Halau has been dedicating their leisure time to perform since 1989.
- Custom built for dolphin watching, the Star of Honolulu's brand new 149-passenger Hoku Nai'a vessel provides the rare opportunity for guests to observe Spinner dolphins and other marine life in their natural habitat. More dolphin activities, with certified naturalists, dolphin narration, video presentation, keiki program, and year-round guaranteed dolphin sighting! - For a complete whale watch experience, board the Star of Honolulu's 2.5-hour Premier Whale Watch Cruise, offered daily from December 24, 2007 through April 30, 2008. - Outrigger Reef on the Beach has introduced its newest musical series, Steel Guitar Sundays, a backyard style, kick-back kind of affair with generous portions of music, chatting and fun. Offered on the second Sunday of each month at the Shore Bird Restaurant and Beach Bar, Steel Guitar Sundays features seminars and music by some of Hawaii's finest steel guitarists.
- In partnership with the Hyatt Regency Waikiki Resort & Spa, legendary Hawaiian surfer Dane Kealoha has opened Waikiki's premier surf learning center called Surf Academy by Dane Kealoha on the first floor of the resort's Ewa Tower. The Surf Academy accepts students of all ages starting from seven, and appeals to beginner to intermediate level surf enthusiasts. Lessons will begin with a demonstration and ocean safety instruction within the Surf Academy followed by surf time with Kealoha at Waikiki Beach.
