Oahu is a shopping mecca with something for everyone. Home to hundreds of fashionable designer stores as well as markets that carry locally made crafts, visitors are sure to love the shopping experience no matter where they go.
- Ala Moana Center is gearing up to celebrate its landmark 50th anniversary from Aug. 13-31, 2009. The two-week celebration will include more than 50 performances at Centerstage, a "Fifty Years of Fashion in Hawaii" exhibition, a limited-edition 50th anniversary centerwide gift with purchase, an opportunity to receive an exclusive U.S. Post Office 50th anniversary cancellation stamp, special events, retailer promotions, and more.
- Ala Moana Center is welcoming several new merchants throughout summer and fall. In May, American Apparel, Animation Addict, and Lin's Market opened. June store openings included Kate Spade and Goma Tei Ramen. Michael Kors, Links of London, which offers men's and women's jewelry and leather and silver items, and Ala Bella, which features gold and silver jewelry, will open in July. In August, LEGO will open its first Hawai'i store at Ala Moana Center. Fall will commence with the highly anticipated opening of Hawai'i's first Victoria's Secret.
- To commemorate the 50th anniversary of Hawaii's statehood, Crazy Shirts is offering special ti-leaf dyed t-shirts for men and women. The men's shirt features the official anniversary logo fronting the Hawaii state flag, and the women's shirt design features the Hawaiian Island chain, pink hibiscus and reads "Celebrating the Big Five-0, 50th Anniversary of Statehood."
- Formed by a group of friends who wanted to do something about the amount of trash left on Waikiki's beaches, Kini Beach is a company that designs and manufactures tote bags and paddle covers from recycled straw beach mats and plastic floatation devices. Kini Beach collects materials from the beach and puts them through an intense cleaning process before hand stitching each unique piece.
