Wild Side offers several different tours but no individual tour can be precisely predicted in advance due to changing weather and the presence or lack of same of marine life.

In 2005 I took the Morning Wildlife Cruise on the Island Spirit catamaran. Both Tori and her husband Armin ran the tour. The plan was to venture up the coast and allow us to get into the water with the spinner dolphins. It was an experience that I was looking forward to with much anticipation.

Unfortunately, however, it was a time when the dolphins were mating. The male dolphins were gathered off-shore and the female dolphins were closer to shore but swimming rapidly up and down the coast, presumably to escape their male pursuers!

While other tour companies chased the dolphins and literally dropped their passengers into the water in the middle of the pod. This is not acceptable to allowed practice. The spinner dolphins are a protected species and forced in-water-encounters are not legal. Wisely Tori and Armin did not feel that it was possible to allow us to enter the water and swim with the dolphins on their terms, i.e. allowing them to approach us.

While disappointing, the decision was the correct one.
