King Kalakaua Tribute
November 16-17, 2007

Outrigger Keauhou Beach Resort
Guests are welcome to join Outrigger as it honors the last king reigning of Hawaii. Expect to hear the Hawaiian language spoken by keiki and adults for this special olelo Hawaii competition and workshop. Kalakaua known as the Merrie Monarch was credited for reviving the hula. More than 15 Kona area hula halau (schools) will perform in his honor.

Guests can enjoy a number of free cultural programs offered throughout the week. Learn the basics of Hawaiian chanting, beginning hula, or conversational Hawaiian language with Hawaiian cultural expert and hula teacher Kumu Keala Ching.

Go on a fascinating cultural property tour to explore the numerous historic treasures located on the hotel grounds. View a charming keiki (children) hula show in the Verandah lounge, or visit with island kupuna (elders) as they "talk story" and present their crafts. Call for schedule information.
