Before I knew it, 5:00 p.m. was approaching, so I started to walk through the Mall Level towards Macy's. I made a short stop at Martin and MacArthur - Traditional Island Living. Martin and MacArthur is one of my favorite stores in Hawaii. I knew that they had a store at the Aloha Tower Marketplace in Honolulu and one in Whalers Village at Kaanapali, Maui, but I didn't know about this location.
In fact, when I was on Maui last November, I did quite a bit of Christmas shopping at their store. In addition to beautiful koa wood furniture, they also feature lots of handcrafted koa wood bowls, jewelry boxes, picture frames and smaller items. Their handcrafted items also include ceramics, artwork, jewelry, lotions, and soaps. If you're looking for a really nice item to take back to remember your Hawaii trip, this is the store to visit.
It's interesting how one store can start to change your opinion of a place. I also noticed a Maui Divers Jewelry store and a small Hilo Hattie store. I certainly didn't recall any of those stores from my visit ten years ago. I recall thinking that maybe I had been missing something in not revisiting the Ala Moana Center for so many years.
