Meanwhile, Yasur has also found their new beach home and immediately hug each other forgetting all of their troubles in getting there.
A new day dawns, day two on Vanuatu. The older women begin to work on a shelter, but as we have seen before on Survivor the four "sorority girls" including Dolly and Eliza decide to go swimming. The young girls are afraid that the older tribe members will feel that they are not pilling their weight. And they say the young don't think!
Back at Lopevi, the young men try to start a fire. John P. is convinced that he can do it using aboriginal techniques but our resident know it all Chris indicates that he really "doesn't have a clue." We'll see later who doesn't have a clue. While John P. is able to get an ember, they have no idea of what to do with it.
Meanwhile, Chad, a teacher, decides that no time than this is better than the present to reveal to the rest of the tribe that he has a prosthetic foot. Most of the tribe is amazed and impressed, but Brook notes, "All the power to him, I totally think that's inspirational," confessed Brook, "but if I have to vote his ass out of here tomorrow, I'm still gonna vote his ass out of here tomorrow." More prophetic words, I'm sure.
Tree mail arrives advising the Survivors of their first immunity challenge. The teams arrive at the challenge location where Probst greets them. They learn that this will be a combination Immunity and Reward Challenge.
This Challenge will be an obstacle course requiring many skills. The Survivors first have to go beneath a mud crawl and solve a box maze. Following the box maze, the Survivors must then cross over a narrow balance beam to light a fire in order to drop a torch. The torch is needed to light a final wok, which would signify the victory, as well as Immunity from the first Tribal Council. As a bonus, the winning tribe would also enjoy the reward of flint to help build a much-needed fire.
Neither team has been able to get fire on their own, so both teams see the importance of winning this challenge.
As the competition begins both teams get through the mud crawl, often by helping pull their teammates through. The men solve the puzzle maze first and rush to the balance beam where their troubles begin. The all-knowing Chris cannot get across the balance beam. While his teammates all crawl across the beam, Chris keeps trying to walk across, falling one time after the other. As Chris struggles, the women of Yasur take the lead and proceed to build their fire. Yasur ignites their wok and wins the first immunity. Will Chris pay the price for his failure?
The men of Lopevi return to camp and prepare for their first Tribal Council. Losing to the women is tough for the men to accept. The younger men realize that Chris is the "weakest link" and must go, but apparently they've been watching the wrong show. This is not "The Weakest Link," it's "Survivor."
The young men (John P., Brady, John K. and Brook) approach drill sergeant Lea for his support in their plan, but Lea passes this information along to his older buddies, who decide that what is really needed is for the older men to take out the younger studs first. These older guys have watched Survivor and seen too many groups of young folks eliminate the older players one-by-one. The older guys decide that for at least working to make fire, John P. has earned a bye this week and in what appears to be a strictly random selection, Brook is targeted for eviction. Suddenly the young studs realize that they may be targeted but will this realization help them survive.
As the tribe gathers for Tribal Council it seems clear that Lopevi is divided along age lines. Probst questions the tribe about the likely possibility that Chris may go home following his balance beam failure, but Chris seems confident that he will remain. As the votes are cast and totaled, Brook is evicted by a vote of 5-3-1. In what may be a sign of lack of unity among the tribe's young studs, Brady casts the lone vote to evict Rory, while the rest of the young folk target Chris as was expected.
