Hawaii has hundreds of beaches. There are beaches of white sand, golden sand, black sand, red sand and even a green sand beach. All beaches in Hawaii are public beaches, although some are more easily accessible than others. Many of the major and popular beaches, especially on Oahu, have lifeguards.
Since its inception in 1991, twelve Hawaii beaches have been selected as Best Beach in the United States by Dr. Stephen P. Leatherman aka Dr. Beach. Once selected they are retired from competition.
From now until February 15, 2012, we're accepting nominations for your favorite beach in Hawaii. On February 22, 2012, the finalists will be announced and the voting will begin for the winner, which will be announced on March 30, 2012.
With that in mind, whether you're a visitor to Hawaii or a resident of Hawaii, we'd like to know your choice for favorite beach in Hawaii. You can nominate up to three (3) beaches, but you only need to nominate one.
