Every Memorial Day weekend, Dr. Stephen P. Leatherman, aka Dr Beach, Professor and Director of the Laboratory for Coastal Research at Florida International University, releases his list of America's Best Beaches. 2010 marked the 20th anniversary of this eagerly anticipated annual event.
Once a beach earns the top rating it is retired from competition. To date, 12 beaches in Hawaii have earned a top ranking and are ineligible for future consideration. They are: Kapalua Bay Beach (Maui), Hapuna Beach (Big Island), Lanikai Beach (O'ahu), Hulopoe Beach (Lana'i), Kailua Beach Park (O'ahu), Wailea Beach (Maui), Kauna'oa Beach (Big Island), Poipu Beach (Kaua'i), Ka'anapali Beach (Maui), Hanauma Bay (O'ahu), D. T. Fleming Beach Park (Maui), and Hanalei Bay (Kaua'i).
I have my own picks for my favorite beaches in Hawaii, but I'd like to hear from you. What is your favorite beach in Hawaii and why? If you have one of two photos taken of the beach, please share them with us.
