Tell us about your photo.

If you are planning a trip to the Big Island of Hawaii then you must visit the Thurston Lava tube and the giant fern forest that accompanies it. This lava tube can be walked through and is fairly large.

You will come to an opening in which you can then depart for another adventure or go on to the second half, but bring a head lamp because there is no light.

The giant fern forest is straight out of an old storybook or National Geographic in which explorers wrote about the expeditions to far off lands and found themselves surrounded by fern's the size of an entire man and stalks the size of a man's thigh. No one will believe you unless you bring back a photo!

Tips and Tricks

  • This photo was right off the trail. You don't have to travel far to get a good look at the ferns or a great shot for your scrapbook.
